Betterment Christian Coach — Cookie Policy

Last updated: January 1, 2026

1. Overview

This Cookie Policy explains how Betterment Christian Coach uses browser cookies and the Web Storage API (localStorage & sessionStorage) on Betterment Christian Coach. We use these technologies solely to make the Service function correctly — not for advertising or cross-site tracking.

2. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember preferences and session state across page loads. Local storage works similarly but with larger capacity and no automatic transmission to the server.

3. Cookies We Use

We set one browser cookie:

NamePurposeDurationType
sidebar_stateRemembers whether the navigation sidebar is open or closed.7 daysFunctional

No analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies are set by Betterment Christian Coach.

4. Local Storage Used by Betterment AI Coach

Betterment AI Coach and the Betterment Christian Coach app store data in your browser’s local storage to preserve your preferences and enable key features. The following keys are used:

chronotalk.voiceInputModeRemembers your preferred voice input mode (browser mic vs real-time).
chronotalk.realtimeTranscriptionLanguageYour chosen transcription language for voice sessions.

Debug and trace keys are only populated when developer features are active and do not contain personal data beyond what you have already shared with the AI.

5. Betterment AI Coach’s Use of Local Storage

When you interact with Betterment AI Coach (our AI voice and text assistant), the Service stores session preferences and operational data in your browser’s local storage on your device. This data:

  • Is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless explicitly noted above.
  • Is used exclusively to make the Service function correctly.
  • Does not include raw voice audio or personally identifiable information beyond what you choose to share in conversation.
  • Can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

By accepting cookies and local storage in the consent banner, you agree to Betterment AI Coach’s use of local storage as described in this policy.

6. Managing and Clearing Storage

You can manage or delete cookies and local storage data at any time through your browser’s settings. Clearing site data will reset your preferences and may require you to accept the consent banner again. Instructions for common browsers:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Clear browsing data → Cookies and other site data.
  • Safari: Settings → Safari → Clear History and Website Data.
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Clear Data.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as our use of storage technologies evolves. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date above and, where appropriate, by presenting an updated consent banner.
